By the year 2050, annual food grain production would need to grow to 333 million tonnes. Despite the fact that the contribution of key food grains in acreage terms in India is 15 per cent, the production contribution is mere 8.7 per cent. This indicates that the use of innovative technology is necessary to meet the forecasted demand in a sustainable manner and move Indian agriculture along the growth path. It’s time to seek the right partnerships that add value through innovations and achieve shared goals through combined efforts. To adopt innovation, support to Agri-start-ups will aid in agriculture growth. The efficient use of the talent pool will be a key driver for improving competitiveness in the agriculture sector. Now a day’s new technologies are revolutionizing the farming industry but the education sector is failing to keep pace. Domain expertise in agriculture sector can be enhanced with innovations in agriculture education. There is a need for innovation in agricultural education across the key areas like; development of education resources that attract the very brightest students into a career in agriculture innovation, development of strategies to improve extension of research outcomes to the farming sector and innovation in the education of the general public is required. Looking into the need of an hour NAHEP, Dr. PDKV, Akola is organizing a national conference on the theme “Agriculture Education, Innovation and Research for Future Livelihood - Indian Scenario in 2050”.
